As you placed this into the NoMercy folder that means you want a brutally honest Critique from #thephotographyunion so here we go
From initial look at the shot its a nicely detailed and colourful close up of bark. The image is not overly sharp in its focus area which on a shot like this was a good idea. Though a tiny bit in its focused area wouldn't have seemed out of place but it is a fine line.
The middle bit seems a bit too dark I feel, mostly the area that dips middle top and to the left bit. The dark patch is drawing my eye there rather than the close up goodness of the moss and the colourful cracks.
It does feel a little under exposed but not so much that it impacts the over all shot.
Vision: When out and about in nature its all too easy to overlook the small things as we regard looking up as been positive Chin up etc. And in this case we often don't look down or walk around with closed eyes. So to see this you really have to be looking around. 4
Originality: Close up shots of Nature are few and far between depending on what group you want to look at. There does tend to be a trend on what can be shot at close up though and bark is high on the list so only a 3.5 here.
Technique: Not the hardest shot to setup for but 1 that can easily have silly errors springing up from it. You seem to have not suffered that problem here, even if it feels a tiny bit under exposed... but that could just be me 4
Impact: The shot is nice to look at from thumbnail to full view so the close up of nature on the bark is clear for all to see. Live can be found on the smallest of places if we just open our eyes to our surroundings more 4
It is a shot that can have many different ways to possibly edit or touch up or even focus on so lots of scope for editing. This image as it is though is spot on for the subject
